Tips For An Online Job Interview

Tips For Online Job Interview

There has been a total lockdown in Thailand & Indonesia since mid-March. Many employees at different companies work from home. It looks like the lockdown will take a while. Companies that first postponed the introductory interviews due to the lack of physical contact with the candidate during the interview are increasingly switching to conducting online job interviews.

Have you just spotted the vacancy with which you take a step forward in your career? Then it is quite possible that your application will go through an online platform. This could just be the first time you apply through a platform. These tips should help you conduct such an online job interview.

Software for an online job interview

There are several options for applying online. Companies use Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, among others. The most important thing is that the company you are applying for has checked whether the software is AVG-proof. Often the company has written a manual for the use of the chosen software. It is advisable to test the software a day before your application because you will not be faced with surprises just before the interview. Perhaps an open door, but also make sure you are in a place where you have a good internet connection.

A right attitude during your online job interview

As with any job interview, you want to look good in your online job interview. You are only partially in the picture, so it is a lot more challenging to transfer your image to the recruiter via an online job interview. Put on clothes that you would have put on during a physical job interview. Provide a (laptop) tripod so that the camera is at eye level.

Place of the conversation

In addition, it is important that the (day) light shines on your face. The backlight is not recommended. Also provide a neutral background, because your (possible) new employer is watching your house or bedroom. It is useful to test the location of your interview. This way, you can see how the image is, but you can also hear whether you are clearly audible. Tell any housemates that you are having a job interview so that they do not disturb you during the meeting. Do you have pets? So don't let them steal the show. ?

During and after the online job interview

Find a quiet environment so that you do not get distracted during the interview. Do you want to take notes during the conversation? Then make sure you do this on a scratchpad. The use of the keyboard during the job interview is distracting.

After the conversation, make sure you close the application properly. You don't want to ruin your good impression after the conversation.
